Library In-Service Day

The Seattle and MRJC libraries will both be closed all day on Monday, October 5 for staff in-service. During this time, the staff will be attending training and performing other duties that require our operations to be closed to the public. A book drop will be available outside the Seattle library doors. Books normally due on Monday, October 5 will be due on Tuesday, October 6. Chat, email, and telephone reference will not be available. Other county departments will not be affected.

Tech Tip – All the Pretty Icons!

Icons are the visual clues we use to keep track of the many programs on our computers. They’re added automatically when we install a new program but they can also be edited or replaced with custom icons of your own choosing with a freeware program called IconFx. IconFx is a graphics program designed specifically to edit and credit icons. It works just like standard picture editing programs with much of the same tools and features.

E-Filing Support at KCLL

To help you make a smooth transition to E-filing, the staff at both of our branches can take your existing paper documents and create .pdf files suitable for submitting to King County’s new E-filing system. The cost is $2.00 per paper document. Please allow 10 minutes per paper document for the transition process.

Episode 33: Debt Collection Lawsuit: Defend Yourself – Show Up In this episode we talk about a common question the Library is getting in these harsh economic times. How can you help yourself if you are sued to collect on an outstanding debt? The “Reel Verdict” segment, reviews the movie “Repo Man.”

Blog Post of the Month - DOL Makes Changing Gender on Licenses Easier

KCLL Klues, our Washington state research blog, keeps you apprised of interesting legal news and great research links. During August, Rick, of our staff, wrote about the Department of Licensing. The State Department of Licensing amended the policy for changing the gender designation on driver licenses, making it much easier for Washington drivers who have gone through a gender transformation to update their standard licenses to reflect the correct gender. The amended policy only applies to standard driver licenses; those wishing to update an extended driver license (EDL/EID) must still follow a more complicated procedure.

Check out the blog to read the full posting with the links provided. Interestingly, when Rick wrote the post, DOL had not updated the procedures on their web site. The press release had gone out, but Rick could not find the new information. Rick pointed it out and DOL posted it quickly!
