CLE: NCAA & Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) – Updates and Anarchy!

February 22 @ 12:00 pm 1:00 pm PST

CLE Credit: 1.00 Law & Legal

Wait – college athletes can now earn money???  What’s going on?

The last four years have been a watershed moment in amateur college sports. We went from the possibility of a student losing their athletic eligibility for pursuing endorsement offers in 2019 – to athletes signing multi-million dollar deals in 2022.  This is a new era for student-athletes.

In this CLE, you’ll learn about how we got here and how the intersection of Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deals, the NCAA Transfer Portal and Boosters (“Collectives”) have changed the college sports landscape.

And we know this much…where we are now and what is allowed or not allowed today will change rapidly and frequently. With implications for even family law cases involving student-athletes, it will be critical for lawyers to stay up to date as the NCAA, federal legislators and states continue to jockey for position in controlling the direction of college sports.
