For those on SSI or SSDI, an overpayment notice often leads to an automatic benefit reduction of 10% to 50%. These cuts push vulnerable neighbors into poverty, yet many are unaware they have the right to appeal, request a waiver, or negotiate a lower repayment rate.

Staff and volunteers from the Benefits Law Center will provide free legal advice, and assist with form drafting and submission, and help address complex overpayment disputes that threaten clients’ housing and financial stability.
